Board of Directors

The AFB Board of Directors consists of 12 members, including the AFB CEO and 11 senior members from AFB member banks. The Board steers the AFB’s overall strategy in support of its members and ensures risks, threats and opportunities for AFB are appropriately addressed/embraced. Their overall aim is to oversee cultural, financial and legal security, probity and longevity.

In his role as Head of International, Bill is responsible for BMO Financial Group’s Capital Markets business in EMEA and Asia.  Prior to assuming his management role in EMEA in 2011, Bill was Head of Investment and Corporate Banking in London where he was responsible for a wide range of international transactions including M&A, strategic advisory, equity and debt financing. Bill provides a leadership and governance role on several regulated subsidiary boards within EMEA and Asia, including Bank of Montreal China (Chair), Bank of Montreal Capital Markets Limited, Bank of Montreal Europe and BMO Global Asset Management Europe. Before joining BMO Capital Markets in 2004, Bill gained 20 years of investment banking experience working in London, Toronto and Tokyo. This included work in fixed income, derivatives, foreign exchange and credit. In addition to his executive responsibilities, Bill is the Chair of the UK’s Association of Foreign Banks, a Vice-President and Director of the Canada–United Kingdom Chamber of Commerce and a member of the University of Toronto’s International Leadership Council. Bill holds an MBA from York University, a Master’s in Political Economy from the University of Toronto and a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Lawrence University.

Sir Roger Gifford is Senior Banker at SEB in London. He read Chemistry at Oxford and began his career in the financial sector at S.G. Warburg, joining Enskilda Securities (SEB) in 1982.  Roger headed SEB in Japan for six years in the 1990’s and was UK Country Head from 2000 to 2016. He has worked in and around the primary debt and equity capital markets most of his career.
Roger is Vice Chair and past Chair of the Association of Foreign Banks (AFB) in London and Chair of the Advisory Board of the International Business and Diplomatic Exchange (IBDE). He was Chair of the London Green Finance Initiative launched in 2016 and chaired the UK Government’s Green Finance Taskforce in 2018. Roger is currently Chair of the Green Finance Institute, launched in 2019, and was a member of the 2021 Dasgupta Review on the economics of biodiversity loss.  He was Lord Mayor of London in 2013 and knighted in 2014 for services to international business, culture and the City.

Susie has more than 20 years experience in global financial services, all spent working with foreign banks. Most recently she served as CEO of BACB plc having previously been the bank’s CFO. Prior to this, Susie held senior level finance, operations and business development roles at Credit Suisse. She is an accomplished board member having held various NED roles, including as Chair.

Stewart joined DBS London in 2004 as Head of the Commodity Trade Finance team with responsibility for developing the business.
He was appointed General Manager in 2010 and Country CEO in 2014, increasing his responsibilities to include DBS Vickers.
During his time in London he has demonstrated a strong ability to build our business and deepen our customer relationships not just in London and Europe but also in Asia. He has strong client relationship skills and has placed focus on growing sustainable client relationships, leveraging on the Asian connectivity. Under his stewardship DBS London has successfully grown its Corporate Banking business and added a Treasury and Markets team. In 2016 DBS Vickers added a Wealth Management business to its portfolio. Stewart has over 30 years’ global experience within the industry, spending five of those years based in Hong Kong, as well as having worked in Switzerland and South Africa. Stewart serves as a Director of the Association of Foreign Banks in the UK and is a past Chairman of the World Affairs Division of the Association of Foreign Banks. Stewart graduated with a BA and postgraduate LLB degree from the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg in 1985.

Mr. Fang is the General Manager of Bank of China Limited London Branch and the Chief Executive Officer of Bank of China (UK) Limited. He served as the Deputy General Manager and the Chief Risk Officer of Bank of China USA from 2015 to 2018. He was General Manager of Bank of China Limited London Branch & the Chief Executive Officer of Bank of China (UK) Limited from 2011 to 2015. Mr. Fang joined Bank of China Head Office in 1996. Educated at Beijing Foreign Studies University in China to postgraduate level, Mr. Fang also received his MBA with Distinction from the University of Hertfordshire, UK in 1996. He has been a CFA Charter Holder since 2007. Mr. Fang has been appointed as chairman of the China Chamber of Commerce in the UK since December 2018.

A well-established Human Resources Professional, with over 20 years’ experience in an international environment across several industry groups. The majority of Patricia’s work has been in Banking, working one to one with Board Members with responsibility for the successful implementation of the global people strategy. Patricia is currently employed as the Head of Human Resources for London, NY and Tokyo with DVB Bank.  Alongside her international HR responsibilities she also holds the position of Deputy Branch Manager. . In addition, Patricia is Vice President serving on the Board of the City Women Network (CWN) one of the longest-standing women’s networks in the UK. Patricia holds a B.Sc. (Hons) Degree in Occupational Psychology and a Masters in Human Resource Management.

 

Mauricio Itagyba Borges is General Manager of the London Branch, responsible for overseeing activities such as European Regional Treasury, Compliance & Risk,Syndications and Trade Finance carried out locally and across the Branch’s jurisdiction – which covers Europe, Middle East, India and Oceania. Also, he has a close liaison with regulatory authorities, ensuring the Branch abides by the UK financial system rules. Throughout his 27 years’ career at Banco do Brasil, Mauricio has held managerial roles in the Wholesale Banking segment, including the position of Regional Director of all branches in the states of Sao Paulo and Parana.He holds a Master in Global Finance & Banking from Kings College, an MBA in Finance, three postgraduate qualifications in Finance, Marketing and Advanced Management and a degree in Economics.

 

Richard Kaye is Head of International Public Affairs for J.P. Morgan.Richard has been a member of J.P. Morgan’s UK & Regional Management Committees in Europe; Chair of the Financial Services Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce to the European Union; and is Member of the Council of the International Regulatory Strategy Group of CityUK.He is a member of JPMorgan Chase’s LGBT Executive Council and the firm’s EMEA Diversity Council.

Loknath Mishra is the Managing Director and CEO of ICICI Bank UK PLC.  Mr. Mishra is also a Non Executive Director on the Board of Association of Foreign Banks in UK and is Chair of FICCI UK Finance committee.ICICI Bank UK PLC is a 100% subsidiary of ICICI Bank Limited. The UK Bank has seven branches and four business centres in UK and one in Germany. The Bank is focused on serving India Europe corridor for remittance, trade and investment between India and Europe. The Bank has taken several initiatives in past few years and has emerged as a banker of choice for Indian community in UK as also for Indian business owners, trade counter parties and MNC & private equity funds seeking to invest in India. ICICI Bank works very closely with various organization like Indian High Commission (banking partner for Access India Programme), UK India Business Council, UK Export Finance, FICCI/CII, IPF, CBI and various other organizations to promote this corridor.Mr. Mishra is actively involved in various initiatives as mentioned above and is well known among all key stakeholders in UK. He is also a regular speaker at various forums of areas of common interest of India UK relationship.

 

Catherine Raines was appointed AFB CEO in December 2019.  She has extensive executive and INED experience across several sectors and has worked in the UK, USA, Sweden and China.Catherine spent 25 years in the global pharmaceuticals sector, holding senior roles such as Group Head, Corporate Audit and VP, Corporate Development (China) for AstraZeneca.  In 2013, she was appointed by PM David Cameron to lead UK-China trade efforts, based in Beijing. Her teams led on all commercial aspects of bilateral economic/trade dialogues, growing trade outcomes twelve-fold in two years. Subsequently, she was appointed global CEO at UK Trade & Investment, leading 2700 staff across 108 countries to facilitate UK trade. She conceived and delivered the world-first digital trade platform (great.gov.uk) and was a founder member of the Board of the Department for International Trade. She also sat on the Boards of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and UK Export Finance.In 2016, Catherine was named by the Sunday Times as one of the 500 most influential people in the UK.  In 2017, she was awarded an honorary doctorate from Keele University.  She is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of International Bankers.

 

Pierre Vinci is the General Manager of the UK branch of Credit Industriel et Commercial (“CIC”). With presence in the city since 1895, CIC is part of the Crédit Mutuel Group, a Top-ten European bank, with activities in retail banking, insurance, investment banking, asset management, private banking and private equity. Prior to CIC, Pierre was Head of International Origination at ABN AMRO within the Structured Finance division, successfully developing the business and receiving accolades from the industry. Before that, he spent ten years at GE Capital as an Executive Director in Corporate Lending, and five years as a Strategy Consultant at Accenture. Pierre graduated with a Masters in Management from the ESCP Business School and a MSc. in Finance from the Lancaster University Management School. Outside of work, he is married and has two young boys. When not on parental duties, he mostly enjoys sports, cooking and travelling.
